One of the basic purposes of the institute performance is conducting and advancing fundamental and applied research directed at obtaining new knowledge in the field of information and communication technology. A brief summary of the priority areas of basic research carried out by the departments of the Institute:

information theory, scientific basics of information and computing systems and networks, system analysis;
automation systems, complex control systems and processes mathematical research methods, CALS technologies;
architecture, system tools and software of data processing systems of the new generation;
pattern recognition systems, decision support systems;

The outcome of the institute's activity is constructive research and the main objective is development of the information technology field.

The institute also carries out applied

intellectually adaptive systems for providing information security;
overlay technologies;
distributed systems;
virtual and augmented reality.
